Dorothy Rebecca Cool passed away gracefully in the arms of her children on March 1, 2010 at her home in Freeport. Dorothy was a special lady who loved to read, knit, crochet, watch baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, and also played women's softball in her younger years. She really enjoyed her family gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Formerly she was a proud member of Eastern Star, and Freeport Historical Society. Dorothy was a very positive person throughout life and always had a kind word for everyone, she was a strong woman.
She was born in Howard City, Michigan on June 12, 1924 to Hezikiah and Grace (Kunde) Woods. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James A. Cool; son, Rodney L. Cool; and special friend Bruce Alderink. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Rae Reed of Delton, James D. Cool of Freeport, Rosemary Count (Ray James) of Delton, and Lory Biermacher of Middleville; sister, Jane Blough of Hastings; sisters-in-law, JoAnne Talsma of Hastings, and Nelda Newton of Freeport; along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Dorothy is at the Lauer Family Funeral Homes-Wren Chapel 1401 N. Broadway in Hastings where her family will receive friends on Sunday March 7, 2010 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. According to her wishes cremation will follow and graveside services will be held later this spring in Freeport Cemetery.
